Recommendations for a good host?

Hi

Im looking for a good, reliable host. That allows me to run a phpbb database of at least 1,2 gb and still growing. It should allow mod-rewrite and have functions like a control panel , etc. Any recommendations from the professionals?

 

Go for a dedicated machine, I would recommend if cost is not a MAJOR issue. How much bandwidth are you looking for ? Go for a good reupted company.

 

i have NO recommendation - since i am looking again for a host myself
but
i can recommend you what host to avoid - my present : 1and1.com ..
because:
virtually zero support ( no sup chat, no sup email, etc )
mysql db crashes and db loss every few weeks ( now at least 3 times in some 5-6 weeks )

NO daily backups of mysql db as promised - instead only every 2-3 weeks ...

i may be reading this thread to learn about recommended hosts as well
particularly with SSH login in addition of all other usual linux hosting features
...

my most preferred would be globat.com since one year already
but
they have NO SSH loging / no telnet neither
oterwise they appear top in support speed ( chat and email ) and all needed features for large sites

 

Well is was thing about a reputated one as well myself... question remains, which one?

 

They used to spam my email address and many others until a year ago or so.
That's a good enough reason for me to not sign up with them.

As for recommendations I don't know if your requirements fit in, but I'm sure you could contact asmallorange.com and unitedhosting.co.uk as their customer service is very good. That is what counts most (well there's the price of course). They used to be very flexible, I can't see why they shouldn't be anymore. And of course they have very reasonable prices but don't tell them that!

This is the best host that I have seen for the money. I get great 24-hour support, good add-ons, for a cheap price.
