    Try to change the ad unit link color to different one. The current white color doesn't seems to show well placed on the blue color background. This won't attract attention of visitors.

    yeh ive had a few problems with the header so ive been trying things out, i pulled a few clicks from this method but nothing very high

    and i might want to raise the footer and possibly change it

    i think you are hiding your ads and don't want the people to click them :) ..try show them by placing them in the sides and with the white color for the links
