    I spent a bit of time editing the template files to yield the same ad style & placement position on a large portion of pages. I opted not to use the "first post" method because I didn't like it but what do you all think?

    Should I change the leaderboard ads to text only?

    Its okay but NOt best way.
    I can suggest you some modifications.
    1. The top ad on this url
    http://www.thecollegeforum.org/meet-the-admin-t7.html
    can be combined with Breadcrum on the top of the ad and the Title of the thread bellow the ad.
    This way, the ads will automatically get targeted to the title of the thread.

    U can post the second ad on the right hand side of your main topic content. Make the ad float right and make your content width less.

    U can post the third ad bellow your content as done by DP forum
