Well its a sad, sad day for me.

I heard back from google today

Oh bugger I thought, all that SEO all those links and nothing - well about 3 visitors a day for one shite term

I was hoping they would say "you tosser, you have tried to dupe us and you are penalized for 6 months until you clean up your act, you GOOGLE spamming scum"

But no, the harsh cold reality is I am still shit at google SEO!!

    A very sad Jamie :(

just dont give up, keep writing content, keep writing, keep writing, keep writing. Most people dont get any visitors the first few months (my site just began getting some nice amounts of visitors last month, and i launched back in late october). Try getting more links, put lots of time in content and your work will be rewarded.

I am sure it will.. Just surfin my logs and a recent tweak is showing in Yahoo, give it a week or two and I will be well placed for lots of smaller terms (I think)

Not counting my time!!!! but a simple costs - takings equation its making good money. I guess I should count my time, but as its a jobby (hobby x Job) I feel that its OK to discount my time.

I just keep watching those logs, waiting to see referrer "GOOGLE" crop up all the time.

Google isn't always what it's cracked up to be. I'm making a living off 90% yahoo/msn traffic, I don't worry about ranking in Google, it's too much anxiety and time for a tiny bit more traffic if your lucky.

    Of course not...

With minimal time and effort I can put up as many sites and rank for enough keywords in yahoo/msn to make more money than if I were to slave all day writing "good content" and building 1,000's of links and waiting for the sandbox and all of google's little updates - just to rank top 10 for a few days.

Seriously.. why put up with all the frustrations that google presents? Just look in the forum.. all you see is "am i sandboxed" , "do i have enough links", "content this content that", "what happened in this update" .... all the while I'm enjoying my #1's in yahoo/msn while wasting time in the General/Political chat of DP ;) :)

Fair enough yo-yo. But to say ranking well in Google will bring you a "tiny bit more" traffic is pretty ridiculous.

    Jim bob 9 pants's,
I may not have big rep on dp (I'm pretty new here), but I do have a site that has my local service market NAILED, as well as being in the top 10 on the top 3 se's for very generic keywords.

If you want to pm me your site, I's be happy to review and give you suggestions on optimizing/ranking.

Very true, except there's more to it than that.

If it's done properly, you can rank for more than just a few days on G. And the traffic you'll see will usually make it worth it.

But yes, it's damn frustrating. If at the end of the day you have to rationalize man hours etc *over the short term*, G is a lost cause.

I for one start with MSN/Yahoo, then work over to G if the traffic/revenue is worth it. Half the time it's just not worth the hassle, and most of the time it IS frustrating.

Thing is, if you're on something that is quite lucrative, the difference between #1 #3 & #5 can mean hundreds a day, and THATS frustrating :)

    Cheers,

    JL

I didn't mean that the same ranking in google over yahoo would bring tiny bit more traffic, I meant, all your hard work to rank in google can bring a tiny bit more traffic if you're not successful...

In the same time it takes to acheive a #1 google rank I can pull 10-20 #1's in yahoo/msn for 1/10th the effort and cost. I just don't really see the point to letting google have so much control over me and my time when there's good alternatives :)

Ha, with Google, it's usually not that you've spammed too much, but that you've spammed too little. :yikes:
