I am working on starting up a new online business, in which I will be selling customized goods. I already have a LLC for my main business and applied for a DBA. I did search for answers here and didn't see anything, so I apologize if it has been covered and I missed it. I am unsure of how tax payments work throughout the various states that customers purchase from and we ship too. I believe its the state in which you ship to that payments must be made to. Do you have to keep track of what states you owe to and file in all 50 states separates? I hope not, that sounds like a full time job on its own. I only deal with local tax for my existing business so never had to deal with sales tax in other states before.

I would talk to your accountant, or find one that is experienced with e-commerce. This isn't something you want to stuff up and get pinged with years later!

I only have to collect sales tax in the state that I have a physical location or based out of (ecommerce). So for sales within Florida, I have to collect Florida sales tax, no other states.

If I had a warehouse on the west coast in California too, I'd have to collect sales tax in both California and Florida. It would be too much hassle if you had to file taxes in different states every month or quarter. Double check the laws in your state though.
