Security Stamp/Seal Recomendations?

Discussion in 'eCommerce' started by BannanoPeel, Feb 23, 2010.

I've recently launched an ecommerce site and would like to put some of those pretty security seals at the bottom of my site. Here are the sites I have found so far:

    • Truste
    • McAfee
    • BBB
    • Verisign

That's all I've been able to find, I would like to use a couple and would prefer them not to be to expensive.

    Any Advice?

    Thanks

Anything that works even a little is going to be expensive.

In my experience and research with these, they can help depending on your current traffic, and the type of product you sell.

As far as effectiveness, I would put Verisign at the top in general. For a business/retail sales, BBB would be the best.

I have mixed feelings about mcaffee, as I do believe that it can send the opposite message to users that are not highly tech-savvy. Someone see's a hacker**** anything icon, and it raises concerns. I don't think Truste is a strong enough brand to really matter.

As to whether it's worth it to use any of these really depends on your volume. Low volume sites probably wont get a positive ROI on these unless you make several hundred dollars profit per sale. High volume sites would most likely benefit because even a tiny boost in conversion would quickly offset the cost of one of these programs.

An EV certificate is another potential boost, however they are a pain to get, and are not supported by all browsers.

I think for most smaller websites, the best investment is in a really clean and professional website. In the beginning, it will go a lot further than any site seal or certificate.

    Thanks for the info,

My website is farming/ agriculture related, so I'm guessing that a lot of my traffic will be from computer illiterate people, and I don't want them to get scared. Even though currently the only way of paying is through paypal so their isn't much of a way for anyone to steal their info.
