Selling software...where to start?

Discussion in 'General Business' started by toolsmith, Sep 15, 2006.

I have a few small programs I've created and would like to sell them online. Where is the best place to start? I've done quit a few searches on Google for "selling software online", "e-commerce sites", etc. Unfortunalety it's caused more confusion. All I would like to do is provide users with a demo version of the product, and if they decide to buy have them make the transaction and the full featured version of the product is made available or sent to them automatically. I know millions of sites do this, I'm just not sure where to start my research. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

you should look into software directory sites that offers free inclusion into their lists. try searching for keywords like "free software downloads" , there are some sites which offer you to submit your own program.

    Best of luck. :)

Have you checked out clickbank as a marketing tool?

Most likely you are going to need a site to sell from no matter how you market them.

eBay is an option, I've seen POS, restaurant billing software being sold there.

Take a look at http://www.Plimus.com , they do have a solution for Shareware/Registration Key Solution so they can handle the payment and fulfilment solution for you.

As for promotion, take a look at http://robosoft.rudenko.com/ , I've use Robosoft for submissions to the various shareware repository sites. Works great for me.

You can join OSIV http://www.oisv.com/ which is a shareware developer association where you can get nice tips.

We are on the same ship.

You must create some promotion web of course for your programs. When you want to sell your programs as shareware, solve problem with registration.

As payment processor use www.regnow.com, it has a big support for affiliate programs. Plimus is not bad too, its advantage are pyments only for sales, for Regnow you must pay registration fee.

Create PAD XML files for your programs and upload them on the web
And at last most important thing register your programs (PAD files will help you a lot) on soft directories.

Here is list of soft directories:
