    Hi Guys,

I agree with "Guy from Chicago". I think SEO will merge into an Online Marketing/Campaign Manager responsibilities, which in my opinion creates a better opportunity market for real SEO's and not link builders, especially with some marketing spark and experience in them.

In my opinion SEO is an architect, a person who can design your online business for success and suggest you different avenues for the same.

    Good Luck to all SEO's

SEO will be automated by 2009. Software will do all the work and we will drink all the beer.

The big SEO firms are already doing this because there is a lot of money to be made in managing ad campaigns.

If the question is "will there be jobs in the future for people with seo skills", then the answer is yes. Companies offering seo services might need to diversify what they offer, but they will still need staff who know what they're doing. Even if 99.9% of the population is able to learn how to do seo themselves there will still be jobs. Not everyone will be good at it, not everyone will have time to do it, not everyone will have the connections/software/resources setup for it.

Even as the algos change and it becomes harder to achieve top placement through link popularity, it will still be important for businesses to optimize their sites....I still can't believe the number of sites I come across that aren't even indexed at all, or their rankings are worthless because they lead to a unframed page with no nav menu, or just a page with a nav menu (because they use frames), or some other funked up formatting.

Every industry has it's boom, and then it fades to reality. The reality is that there are always opportunities to make a living at something if you've got your act together.

The only thing that's "dumb" is if you start believing that Google controls the world. Google is NOT the market...it's just one business that's a part of it. It's also kind of silly to think that seo exists by itself. It's always been a marketing tool, and just one piece of the puzzle. As someone who does online marketing consulting for a living I'm actually looking forward to the time when the SEO hype dies down. Then I might actually be able to get my clients to focus on the bigger picture, instead of just thinking all they need to do is SEO. ;)

I agree with martaay and It seems as though many of us appear to have a crystal ball on the future of seo. Out of all the hundreds of millions of websites presently and in the future, if everyone and businesses were going for PPC, then how could you possible compete then, if it's as difficult as it is now?

Some of these predictions were from 2004. Two years later, SEO still in great demand.

I believe that some of us here are not doing very well financially as Internet marketers or SEO's.

There will always be a smarter way to bring traffic to a website and the SEO experts will be able to get it beating other competition.

Don't concentrate on SEO, look at web marketing, there's a whole ways of getting traffic to a website apart from SEO. If you just concentrate on that you'll be limiting yourself.

Web marrketing is the fasting growing form of media. The big companies are realising it has to be taken seriously and are plunging big budgets into it. Out of all the media forms the internet is in for the biggest growth over the next 20-30 years, it's too important for people to ignore now.

Exactly. I still believe what I said almost a year ago to be true:

Is there a demand for search/online marketers...you bet your ass there is.

How funny that this conversation revived. I also stick by what I said last year...I'm still seeing a lot of the same mentality. Businesses with smaller budgets want to focus on just link building, while those with bigger budgets do a combo of ppc and seo (and of course are more open to other pieces of the puzzle like affiliate marketing, blog promotions, etc).

In the job scene there is a lot of demand for online marketing managers that have experience in all of these facets. Very rarely can they afford to hire someone who only does one thing.

Agreed. You really need to be diverse in the service you can provide. There is a demand for the "specialist" but it's not at the same level as the demand for someone with a broad set of online marketing skills.

I think the biggest thing we'll see with the guys with big money will be link baiting. Creating somthing useful or unique on you site to people link to you automatically, that's where the big money will go.

SEO Can be a very good money making hobby for an individual for now..
I work as a full time SEO but my present action is to get my job profile turned into a web programmer, because I feel its more stable.

I still want to continue my SEO Hobby with my own sites ;)

Maybe that pressure is just your body reminding you that you need to stay on your toes. That's the trade off when you work for yourself...you've always got to be learning/improving/growing. I actually thrive on that challenge, which is why I get miserable when working in an employment only situation.

If you can get involved in a small network of professionals/biz owners it helps a lot to have that sounding board.

I guess you could look at it that way. Personally I don't care to have any one source controlling my life, so I always market/work through multiple outlets.

I don't think SEO can be automated. SEs will keep changing their algos and they will come with more complicated ones.
