SEO Friendly URL CMS?

Discussion in 'Content Management' started by Windows-Update-Advisor, Nov 30, 2005.

I currently use Drupal for my wite www.windowsupdateadvisor.com

It is SEO friendly because the URL is user-definable. By using a hack add-on, autoURL, all content generated will have the title as the URL

for example, my article with title "MSConfig for Windows 2000" will be generated with URL http://www.windowsupdateadvisor.com/msconfig-for-windows-2000.html

Of course, it also have shortcomings too..

Just wonder anyone have experience with Drupal CMS and care to comment? e.g. any better CMS than this?

    Thank you:p

I used Drupal for a site, but then changed to Mambo.
Both are SEO friendly, but i think Mambo is more customizable and have a bigger community. :)

Joomla (the improved version of mambo) has SEF built in.

However, its been confirmed by googleguy that dynamic url's wont hurt you for google seo.

It *does* make them easier for humans though :)

I'm looking into Joomla/Mambo right now and it's SEF works just fine, but requires an apache server.

Joomla isn't really a blog - but content can be shown as a blog. That sounds screwy, but that's the way it is. It's a pretty powerful system for creating unlimited sections, which can have unlimited categories, which can all be displayed as blogs individually or combined into one blog style display.

If you're looking for the user-friendliness aspect of blogs, then Joomla has it in the form of wysiwig editing, etc, BUT, getting your site set up does require a bit of a learning curve. It's not all that intuitive (at least it wasn't to me), but once you get it, you see how many different things you can do with it, which is cool.

drupal is awesome for many tasks (however, especially w/ contrib modules, it can get very heavy on the sql queries...)

Moveable Type and Wordpress both do this as a configuration change in their out-of-the-box installs. I'm a MT fan myself, but both are primarily blogging tools. I'm thinking about trying to un-blog my site currently - i.e. re-design some of the pages to look less blog-ish, stop pinging, and figure out what things to do to make google see my website as a website and not a blog.

none do, unless you count one of those portal plugins for forum software. Most have commenting systems, but fall well short of what you typically would call a forum.

www.performancing.com the Blog for pro bloggers uses Drupal and has a forum. So you can see everything in action over there. Not sure if their forum was a custom job or part of drupal but you can probably tell.

If I were you I'd take a look at E107, not as many plugins as wordpress or drupal atm, but has a lot of stuff by default , super stable and easy to costumize.

I have been using Joomla for a long time (even from Mambo times). I have no hesitation in calling it the best CMS.

As regards your requirement for a forum, just use SMF. No problem making it look like the CMS.

I have had the same problem as you and then decided it to be this way: Medspan (Joomla) - Mediscuss (SMF) - Medimages (Gallery2). I am currently satisfied with what I have done in terms of design... They look as part of the same site (integrated).

    What do u say?

I launched Joomla on one of my sites this past week and so far have been very pleased. I've even integrated it with my vBulletin forums.

Yes, I agree. For forum software, better use a special-purposed, like vBulletin, as in this site? :D

Definetely Wordpress + All in One SEO Pack plugin. Don't forget to properly configure .htaccess for nice URLs.
