Server load problem

Can anybody define me what is server load, Actually my site is not loading properly from last 5 days and i lost almost 40% valuable traffic due to it.after i checked in my hosting the server load icon was showing with RED (8.54) mark of error and rest of them were GREEN. How can i reduce the load.

 

Usually it depends on the traffic that your site receives. Usually database-driven sites when have high amount of traffic causes a lot of cpu usage. Are you using a root server or vps?

Are you on a dedicated server or VPS? If not, then the load is for the entire server, and has absolutely nothing (likely) to do with your account.

The load number also depends on the number of cores/processors in the server. That load is just fine for a 8 core or 16+ core server, for example. If it's any less than that, it's a problem.

@WSWD - When i checked details in my hosting it was showing 8.54(4Cpu).

and now today suddenly i face another problem with it - "MySQL server has gone away" & Cannot connect to DB
what should i do for these 2 problems, Should i change my hosting provider.

 

That is WAY overloaded for a 4 core server. The MySQL server has gone away errors are not good either. Sounds like the whole server is overloaded.
