    I'm a big fan of gallery. It has mod rewrite out of the box and validates to html standards. I also tried Coppermine on a site but that's a complete mess with urls, doesn't validate and doesn't seem to work with IE5.5 (the last bit could be due to some mods I made). Gallery is pretty good for search engines so long as you bother to add words with the pictures.

    I don't know why they make gallery look so ugly and fill it full of hit counters. I simplified and re-skinned it for a mate: http://www.ossian4.co.uk (he hasn't added so many words).

    The mods included adding h1 tags to the heading, and changing the url of the photo pages to the photograph caption. The first bit is just editing the appropriate html wrap files, and the later is described on the gallery forum.
