For ASP I can recomend Candypress, extremely well coded, flexible and cheap.
It has a great back office for running stock levels, edit products etc and updating orders and creating invoices.

Strange how its hard to find a great cart bit like what VB is to forum software

There are good ones and very bad ones but not one that I can find that has all the features and gateways combined of the lot

I've done extensive research and comparisons on shopping carts and have to second the recommendation that you look at Candy Press - I was seriously impressed on a number of different levels.

    This article http://shopping-cart-review.toptenreviews.com/
also may help you compare - although, hey, CP isn't on it at all. But thats not a surprise - there are just SO many options nowadays and often rebranded versions of the same things. Its enough to make a person nuts :)

have you guys checked out www.smorty.com? They are free to set up your site and run but charge a 1% (or thereabouts) commission on sales through the shopping cart, it seems like a fairly good comprimise for a hosted solution:)

I've been using oscommerce on my website for years and i have to say that it's the best open source cart out there that you can find. I know my statement is pretty biased because i never used anything else. But like i said, i've been using it for a long time and im don't have any complaint.
