Should I buy this blog?

    Hi guys,

I've never bought or sold a site before but I'm a web developer whos always wanted to own and operate a blog exactly like this one being sold on flippa.

    http://flippa.com/auctions/83673/Popular-Branded-Green-Blog-for-Sale--PR-5

It looks like a very good quality site, well branded, original content, PR5.

The buy it now price is 20,000 but that seems terribly overpriced considering it only makes about $250/month in revenue. It is my understanding a site is only worth 12x its monthly revenue.

I'm also wondering why no one else on flippa has taken any interest in it. I'm the only one whos been commenting on it.

Can anyone give me some advice or suggestions on how much this site is really worth paying for.

    Thank you very much!

    Hi,

It's too much, IMO - Traffic wise, it just okay with 400,000 Alexa. Income-wise, it's just so-so. Being a PR5 won't justify the $20,000 either.

Here's a question to address: With a PR5 and 400,000 Alexa, how the site will get money from? Sell dofollow text link ads? In no time, Big G will penalize it and decrease its PR. Sell nofollow text link ads? With 400,000 alexa, not much interest from advertisers, IMO.

Even the current bid of $2,100 is a bit too much for me. But then again, the saying, "the site's worth is as much as what you are willing to pay for" is true in this case.

The site is not for me, for sure.

    My 2 cents.

This is your blog and you are just trying to promote it here. Who are you fooling?

A lot of work has been put into the development of the site. This effort one can value for over one thousand.
So the present bid of about $2000 may reflect the market value, however it is more valuable as a part of 'fashionista' group than a separate site.
I am not the 'green' specialist . but I suspect the site's main topic is not as popular as expected, and thats why it is put on sale.

Don't make the mistake of buying based on emotion, thing things through and then decide. The site may represent a great deal for someone who can take it to the next level but do you have valid reasons to believe that you are that someone?

Hi guys thanks for the fast responses. I feel like the sites topic is a good niche but I really don't know for sure. It's definitely something I could write a few articles a week for.

Steve, I checked the link it seems to be working just fine.

Chancy, this is not my blog. It's a blog I'm considering to buy.

Anymore opinions or suggestions are highly appreciated!

    Thanks!

If you have an idea about how to keep and boost the blog's profits to justify its price of $20K -- you should probably buy it. Selling links and adsense doesn't seem to me the right way there. By the way, net profit is stated $130 only.

WOW..sure the owner will gain alot once this site is sold. he then can create another site by investing the gained 5K. :D
however, you can probably increase the $250/month revenue once you buy and develop it better.

IMO, it is over-priced... I mean $20k for a blog that has no good traffic and an Alexa rank of 400k+... Only PR5 will not help you to get your ROI.

If you look forward to develop something, than why not buy yourself a domain, web hosting and write for your OWN blog. Getting a PR5 is a bit hard; BUT not impossible. Everything is achievable, you just have to be courageous and bold to make your move.

    Wish you good luck.

It only makes $25 a month from adsense and $1 from konterra - 500 unique pages and that's all it makes. I should imagine that anyone on DP who buys sites will have given it the once over and, should it prove of interest, they'll now bid against you (if that's you who has made the $2,100 bid). You could start your own blogger.com blog for free and spend $2000 on 2000 articles (some article writers virtually give them away).

I think you answered your own question!

$20k seems extremely high for a site with minimal traffic and revenue. Don't get me wrong, the site looks great and the content looks good too, but I wouldn't go near the BIN. If you had an existing portfolio of related sites and a sure-fire plan to increase popularity and revenue, maybe, but I don't think I'd jump into the webmaster game with this site. (Especially with experience as a web developer, you could build a similar site yourself. The main value I see is the PR5... and who knows if that's up to date...)
