Should My Banner Contain Text Or Images?

Discussion in 'Photoshop' started by bad_bob00, May 28, 2007.

    Hi there,

I'm about to make a banner for the header of my website, I'm just wondering whether I should try and use text or images?

If I made a background image and then put text on top of this then the Search Engines would prefer my website wouldn't they? But if I used just an image I suppose I could use the ALT tag to put my keywords in....

Which would be the best route?

    Thanks for any help.

But I mean, I could create an image which is just the background for the header...and then I could use html/css coding with headings used for the words on my website, so that it has better SEO.

Or it would be simpler just to create the whole thing as an image and just use the ALT tag for keyword stuffing. Which do you think is better?

Generally: <h1> tags (text for your header) weighs much more than alt tags...

What you can do is use an image for your header.. and then repeat the title in your content area with the <h1> tag.

Depends.. if you want your site too look better design wise or better for SEs.

Have made a change, for now I'm just using an image as the header. It's a temporary fix, feel free to give me any hints/suggestions as to improve it (I know there are plenty!!)

When you create a new header graphic, save it as a .png file. That way it will be crystal clear. The .jpg you have there now looks a bit rough, due to it having been compressed.

The header on my site is 2 images, the black background with the text on top. The text has a trasparent background (.png). If I change the black to another colour, the text logo will look perfect without me having to change it in any way.

Take what's in your alt attributes and copy them in to title attributes, so us folks using browsers other than IE get mouse-over text.
