Should software be Free (linux) or should be Sale (microsoft)

No, Open Source philosophy is cool but a well done software must be commercial. Also because you need to reward the software developers. Rewarding also creates another mechanism: to create an even better software the next time.

 

And, let me add, an obligation to fix and support the current software moving forward, if they hope to continue to be paid for their efforts. Free love, free software, etc., all come without obligation or commitment. If the software developer does not have an incentive to keep working, s/he can simply stop at any time and no one can complain or have any recourse. However, a business enterprise needs to keep its customer base happy to keep the revenues coming in.

 

I would say both. Paid stuff is needed to generate employment and keep the economy running. Free stuff is needed for people who have a passion for creating things and for those who can't afford to buy something.
The more free alternatives, higher the competition. Competition increases quality.

 

You can make it like Textpad. It is free for everyone to download but it is also available for people to purchase it.
