Live 8 is not about donations this time, its about a change in policy:

"At this year's G8 summit meeting, it is within your power to put an end to this tragedy. It is an extraordinary opportunity which it would be shameful to ignore. We urge you to take these 3 steps to make extreme poverty history...

double the aid sent to the world's poorest countries,
    fully cancel their debts,
change the trade laws so that they can build their own future."

I think the plan is good, but it isn't true to say they don't want your money. If you are paying taxes, then it is your money they are giving away.

I am not against it though, don't read me wrong, it is just a lie to say they don't want your money.

I'm not against it as well but i think we have enough problems to sort out here (the UK) without throwing money at other countries especially those with corrupt governments who end up giving the money to those who don't need it.

Good to see The Who and Floyd getting top billing though.

OK I need to state my opinion whether it will be popular or not.
Many African nations are run by Tyrants oppressing people and I doubt that this concert will solve anything long term speaking. It is great to raise awareness and there will be good coming out of it, no doubt. But in all honesty, when we believe we are making a major difference here, we are kidding ourselves. Then again, you never know what this can start, but like I said: the worst thing to do is to believe that now we have accomplished our mission and everything is going to be great, because it's not going to be because of this.

Thanks for the reminder to sign the live8 list. I just did it. If this does nothing else other than get people talking about poverty issues in our world, I think its been a success.

Now I feel left out -- boo hoo, no one wants my number...

This is too funny, but what does it have to do with live 8?? - just a bit off topic - oh well such is life in the DP. (Someone needs to make a song about the DP life.)

live 8 is about the G8 in Scotland. Not about giving money. Just sign the list, if everyone did that there would be no problem. ;)

Can we get back on friggin topic please :p

Yes, live8 was not about taking your money but 1) raising awareness of the poverty around the World (mainly in Africa) and 2) raising awareness of the G8 summit.

If a child was dieing in your country every 3 seconds you'd expect something to be done about it.. but because this is happening in Africa we can all blank it out of our minds hoping that it will go away.

Yes they are tyrants in Africa - so money has to be wisely spent, and I think we all give enough to charity as it is.. so it's not about giving money its about letting people know that something needs to be done about this .. so sign the bloody list :p

That's the point..as long as there are tyrants in africa, the money will never be spent wisely. All the money funnels through them, so it never ends up where it should go.
