Site localization?

If you do NOT have your site localized, did you specifically choose not to? Why?

    If your site IS localized:
    - Did you get it all professionally translated or machine translated?
    - How do you keep it updated as you modify/add sections/etc?
    - Is display not an issue? For example, if I have 3 columns of words in a 200px wide columns and the total letter count is 20 in English for 44 in French, it would span too wide... and not look as expected? Has this sort of a thing proven to be an issue? How did/do you tackle it?

I have one site which is localized in French and Spanish, (along with English). I did the French localization myself, and paid someone for the Spanish part. I would never use a machine, defies the point in my opinion since the result can be quite bad.

Fortunaly, for the site in question, the content is pretty static since it's a service website, although I do add some articles (in English) sometimes, but I do not translate them.

As far as display, I'm not really concerned about that. The French pages will usually be longer than the English ones, but it doesn't really matter to me. In my case, since my template is simple, the different length doesn't create display problems.
