feels like an early to mid 90s store front try to look mor emodern and reputable. look at places like overstock.com etc.. to see what the big guys are doing there is a reason the sites look like that it is because it gives quality reputation and plus it produces sales.

i think this is just one of the regular yahoo store templates right? I'd definitely recommend a fresher looking store front before worrying about ads.

Also, given that you're selling products, I'd dump ads altogether... you don't want people to leave (which is the only way you'll make money on adsense) without buying something right?

I wouldn't dump the ads i would jsut put them in less prominent places. For instance at very bottom of page etc.. if they are scrolling that far most likely they aren't buying so mineswell get a click.

I find it very unprofessional when a business has ads on their site.

Its true it can look a litlle unprofessional in having ads on a ecommerce site selling products, but it seems more and more do. However, as someone already suggested, I would put thenm in less prominent position.

You have placed an ad below the menu. Try to blend the color to your background color. Now its white.

You realize that by putting ads on your site you are potentially sending customers AWAY from you and to another store selling the exact same thing? Think about it. How much are you making from each item you sell, and is it worth potentially losing that sell for the few cents a click you'll get from those ads?

You seem to misunderstand the purpose of Adsense, blademaster. :) They deliver RELEVANT ADS to your site based off your content. You'll have to sit at home filtering out every single ad that showed up on your site in order to get rid of your competition, because all relevant ads will be your competition, until no relevant ad shows up at all, in which case, why would visitors click on ads that have nothing to do with your site?

actually in my case guys i have the ads on there for a purpose, my site will be selling items that are simialr to my competitors for a much cheaper price, so it really doesnt hurt me to send them to price compare.

if they won't buy from me at my prices then chances are they wouldnt buy anyway so in that case id rather have a clicking customer than a paying customer. click on one of my items for sale you can also see how im using a little price comparison tool that sends them off of my site to a competitors so they can view the competitors higher price then come back and click buy it now.

so what do you think now?

I think that's faulty reasoning, though I'm sure you thought it through. Consider me a potential shopper, looking for blades:

I go to your site, I see your ad, and since the ad is relevant to what I'm looking for ("cheap blades", for instance, and the ad says, in bold letters, "cheap blades here!") I will click on the ad and go to your competitor's site. Since I haven't looked through your entire site and seen your prices, I have nothing to compare with, so I buy from your competitor's because, I'm assuming, you are telling me (since you have his ads on your site) that his blades are cheaper than yours, and remember, I don't know how much you're selling your blades for. So I buy from your competitor, you make a measly .05-cents for that click, meanwhile your competitor nails whatever it is that he makes off a sale, which I'm sure is more than 5-cents.

For your theory to work, you are assuming that your visitors will KNOW those are Adsense ads, and not click on them UNTIL they have gone through your entire inventory and seen all your prices. They won't do that. 99% of the web surfing community has no idea what an Adsense ad is, or what it looks like, and they just think it's another content link on your site.

And the chances that your surfer will go to your competitor's site and click the back button to return to your site after EXTENSIVELY going through your competitor's inventories and their prices? Minimal.

You might want to do an experiment and take the ADsense ads off your site for a week or so and see if your sells increase. If it does, you can then compare your increased earnings to your daily Adsense earnings, and see if it's worth having Adsense on your site.

i will heed your advice at some point by removing the ads for a week down the road. by the way the keywords are paying a lot more than 5 cents as ive had a few cicks. one time i was paid $1.08 usually its around 40-50 cents.

i had planned on using the revenue from these ads to spend back with google adwords promoting my site.
