I've read this article when it made it to the front page of Digg and I have to say that it isn't completely true. The guy who wrote it runs a forum website and forums always do poorly with CTR.

I got one of my sites to the front page and saw my $10/day average go upto $80 for that one day that it was on the front page of Digg. Next day was $60. Then it slowly dropped back down.

However.

I now have a ton of backlinks from people who added my site to their blogs and websites, so it helped in a major way. I've never seen a new site get indexed so quickly on Google as the site I got on Digg's front page.

I also still have a steady flow of traffic from the word of mouth.

When all was said and done, one month later, I'm getting about $5 bucks more a day from that site...and posting to Digg was the only marketing I did for it.

Not really like digg or fark but does have potential to reach a lot of users if you can manage your site getting enough thumbs up i guess.

 

I agree...Stumble Upon is a great resource. I have gotten a couple hundred uniques from giving my sites a thumbs up vote.

Not sure, I never checked to see if anyone else voted for it. It may have gotten more than just my vote.

Reason I think this is the case is because I have given thumbs ups to other site with Stumble and have not gotten any traffic. So perhaps a few others voted and it got more popular in the Stumble queue as a result.

I think it's still a good idea to give yourself the vote in the first place. Just to get it registered with the service and then hope that others like it and it takes off.

Also, another site like Digg that has been mentioned is reddit.com. I can vouch for this site that it can bring in a good amount of traffic as well. Just depends on how catchy your post is.
