Advertise virtually anything here, with CPM banner ads, CPM email ads and CPC contextual links. You can target relevant areas of the site and show ads based on geographical location of the user if you wish.

    That's very smart...

Thanks for the idea! Since google allows images next to these adsense banners with the condition of having a border around your pix.. you achieve it with your borders... so good job!

Thanks guys .. the approach is to give google what they want but think outside of the box. The seperators exist ... and they do seperate but they also create a visual illusion. Has anyone spotted it? hehehe

Look at the first ad on the left ... nice border, nice color nothing special, look at the second ad 4 little dots as seperators BUT start noticing the content, it is like an H. (The 3 dot separtor is more apparent) Where the first part of the H, the | is the picture ad, then the dot seperator is the - part of the H and then finally the ad is the right | of the H. Our mind plays a little game in our head and almost uses the seperator as the connector for the H ... Do you understand? Also the white space also act as an I (hehehehe) so there are two illusions there!

Also ... most people use the image above the ad approach which is great. From my experience, if you are going to use the "little" sqaure images above the ads, you need to go "big" and odd sizes with the graphics and switch it up from the traditional header banner. I try to use a totally different but effective approach. Here is a quick layout I put together to illustrate the approach, EVEN with the adsense banner being a different color (too lazy to chage) IT BLENDS in facinatingly well. But imagine what a great little blend you would have if the ad was matched via color or removed the border and put a cute little seperator on it, just like the ones on the side ads. The ad takes on a totally different appearance, the different size is not traditional as we see others do, which in effect tricks your mind into thinking its not an ad.

Take a look and let me know what you think! (again size to full size)

Frank , really great work you have there , :D .
Hey , i think you should blend those ads , into background too , rather than having them BLUE , Juz try that one .

You , could also lay those directories , horizontal rather thatn vertical , & HAVE at the bottom , an AD link unit .

    Hope i Help , ;))

Very nice! It will even blend better if you pay attention to the fonts Adsense uses: Arial for skyscapers and other vertical ads, Verdana for normal banners like 468x60. So if you change the font of your site to arial, sans-serif, helvetica the ads will blend perfectly!

[edit] Me and my big mouth, you are already using the correct font I see.. [/edit]

Didnt remove it cause of TOS, it was actually performing extremely well (double digit CTR).

Im only playing around at the moment with webdesign, and adsense/adwords/overture/ypn etc so all my sites go up and down regularly.

The pages are still there just archived in a different location (archived link).

Adsense is performing dismal these days so im concentrating on site design at the moment and waiting for YPN to go public!

I received my reply from google today. They basically said that I should put a border around the ads. They went on to explain smart-pricing and said that when you make the ads look like normal links it can negatively impact your earnings. (for your whole adsense account)

So I have put a border around the ads now. I think it looks like crap so I am going to test some different layouts.

I wouldn’t say that “it looks like crap”. After you added the border, guess which was the first “article” my eyes instantly looked at?

You may have a point there. I didn't think about this. I have already changed it to a big leaderboard on top. I will try this for a couple of days and if the CTR is worse than before I will change it back to what it was.

ok guys, this is my website.. i've done it in about 2 days.. with about 1 week of layout testing and ad-blending.. this is a best i've come with right now:
    www.wi-cn.com

tell me what do you think (on ad blending).. basicaly there's an adlink (in the menu) and a large horizontal adsense banner under the title (one some pages I added another one since the pages were long)

hope this doesn't seem like spam or anything, and would love to hear your oppinion

also im thinking of implementing a same-format chikita banner in the footer.. what do you think? too much?

Why do you suggest "Links" should be removed? Looks fine to me.

thanks, also i asked google if it's ok that i blended the adlink ad so it looks like normal links (read somewhere that google requested that borders be placed in such situations), they said it's ok though

Even using the title "Links"? They usually only admit the words "Sponsored Links" or "Advertisement" but nowadays we see many different titles for adlinks particularly in blogs...
