So i have this great idea

Discussion in 'General Business' started by chowda, Jun 19, 2006.

i wrote a plan behind it

i wrote the startup cost, plan of action, marketing strengths and weaknesses.

I drew up site requirements and site details, specs and user functionality.

i wrote as to what specific software i need, how they need to be integrated, and how the design layout should be.

I am having a hard time trusting people with this idea, since i dont want to tell everyone and have clones of it popping up.

I do need some financing and partners since i know i will need some programming done and that i need some more finance to sell the idea towards publishers.

Any help? I want to bring this idea to real life.. but i need some advice.

In the same boat my friend, it's hard to trust people. Have you designed the front end of the site, as in html/css code?

Hire a coding company and make them sign a non-compete agreement meaning they cannot compete with you (make any site alike yours) after they finish coding the site.

You will eventually have to take the plunge and trust people for any large project. Just do serious research and ask for references before working with anyone.

maybe you can try opening a web development firm and hire your own people to do the work for you? Maybe partner with some offshore firm you know.. to get it done cheap.

The bottom line is, you have an idea which you think has potential. However, the longer you wait before executing that idea, the more likely it is that someone else will come up with that same concept and beat you to it.

If your idea is good, then there will be clones of it in no time anyway. You can't stop this. You may as well make some money from it before the leeches out there copy it.

I would advise you to just go for it.SonicReducer is right, you have to take the plunge sometime.I'm not saying be careless, just that you should make the most of your idea while it is new and unique.I learnt that the hard way.

If you have any questions about bringing new ideas to life, PM me and I'll advise where possible.

    Good luck

    1. If it is unique patent it. If it is not then you have nothing to worry about, as there is nothing you can do and then it is first to market.
    2. Get anyone you talk to sign a non-disclosure agreement.
    3. Don't talk about it to anyone about it unless you really have to.
    4. Copyright (this is usually automatic if material is unique) and trademark (must register your logos and concepts) what you can. Laws a different everywhere.

If you have done the above just make it as fast as you can, be first and be the best at it and cross your fingers.

If you need money to complete the project, talk to your account manager at the local bank.

Make sure you have a rock solid business plan! This is necessary to convince people of the validity of your ideas, as well as keeping you headed into the right direction throughout the project.

If the banks turn you down, try venture capitalists or business development banks.

When starting on the coding, work with a professional (amateurs are too expensive). Make sure they sign a NON-DISCLOSURE, NON-COMPETE agreement with HEAVY penalties. Also make sure your coder is in a country where this contract can be enforced. It means nothing if they are in a lawless country or one that will not co-operate with your country.

You should of course have a registered LLC or INC, to seperate liability from yourself and to provide a solid platform for growth and possible sale in the future.

Trademark, copyright and brand everything! People have to know it's YOURS and that YOU (your company that is) are the REAL DEAL and everyone else is a copycat.

    good luck!
