So, what am I doing wrong?

    Hi folks,
I'm trying to optimise my AdSense a little bit to see if I can't get it to pull in $1 a day. I'm currently pulling in just a shade over 10k pageviews, but I'm barely getting one or two clicks.

I've just tried to optimise my site's news page (example: http://www.rewiredmind.com/news/060506/screenshardrockcasinops2) to see if I can get it running any better. Can anyone give me a few pointers as to what I could be doing wrong, here?

Many thanks in advance for your help! :)

    hi there,

Let's start with using horizontal text ads links (now you have them vertical on the top right) just down on your rewirednews box.

    Great site

    Thanks!

Do you mean along the base of the first rectangular box? (Where I have the vertical ads now)

put a big rectangular box above the images and under the title, insert the link units above your menu on the left and put another ad unit under the images

I would put a horizontal skyscraper at the top of your page or a vertical skyscraper at the top of the left side of the page. These are the two most successful ad units in my experience.

One suggestion.. I have a 800 X 640 resolution and I have to scroll horizontally to see those link units in the right side. Try sticking a horizontal unit under 2 rows of pictures.

Your site has a dark grey frame and white middle content which
makes the site visitors blind to the frame

Put the ads inside the white area (like below or above the pictures)
and expect a huge boost !

About a year or so - just kinda put it on my site and forgot about it :)

The horizontal links are working OK at the moment. Getting $1+ per day for the last couple of days :) :)

Wow 10k page views a day... I need to work harder on getting more traffic!

    Anyway hmmm.... I agree with Michael_Goldman - a 336 should do the trick! :)

You do mean like this right Michael?

I think that would increase your CTR a huge amount. Consider making use of images next to the advert as well (you know - the 4 images on top of each other technique:))

OK, I've added some link units to my review pages too. The CTR is going up thanks to the news page changes.

I'm having trouble with the 336 ad though. I just can't make it "work" so I think I may have to abandon that one. It stretches the top box, which is supposed to be like a "THIS IS THE HEADLINE!" type affair. Also, the link unit above the navigation doesn't sit well with me - and my readers hated it. It didn't bring in that much in the way of CTR either.

I think I want my cake and to be able to eat it too! I want the site to look slick AND have ads in the right places. Guess there's a balance to be struck! :)

Any more suggestions are welcome as always, though - and thank you again for all your help so far everyone, I really do appreciate it!
