    I think directory submission is better for long term while social bookmarking is good for short term.

    I use social bookmarks to get traffic and directories for seo linkage. A great social bookmark service is onlywire.com. This makes it really easy to submit any article to 28 different bookmarking sites and it's only about $25 per year! SocialMarker.com is also good but it isn't as automated as Onlywire and requires more manual intervention.

    I see them as the same thing, except social bookmarking = for people, directories = for search engines.

    Social bookmarking more better than directory, social bookmarking can get faster for gain traffic than dir submission that must be wait for approval. Social bookmarking with dofollow is good for get one way permanent link. Do manually more better i though.
