GFC, if you do not want to study the issue, why make comments?

You are in the forum business, do a little research before jumping in here, this is a serious matter, it may be LOL for you, but for many windows users it will not be LOL.

Like I mentioned, maybe you will trust NC to explain it to you, since you are having a hard time understanding the material in this thread.

I understand everything in this thread, don't need anything explained. I've done plenty of research. How many computers and computer using customers do you interact with every day?

Are you actually going to answer any question I've posted or just keep telling me to read something else?

GFC, I answered your question once all ready, I said that if I sold someone a product or service that did not perform, I sure as hell would not ask them to pay me to make things right.

    Did you miss that also?

Again AC, missing the point. If you own XP, you do not pay for SP2. If you do not own XP, then you do have to pay for it. Once you pay for the upgrade, you will then be able to download the patch.

Like Chicago says, if you want to use your old OS, do so, but understand that it will not be supported. We all knew this was coming. I did, I tell my clients that if they want to buy an older OS. Maybe you should be mad at the guy who sold your mom that machine and did not inform her that ME would not be supported beyond Longhorn.

No you missed the point, I have all ready told you I upgraded my XP box to the SP2 non-secure OS.

I think you are missing the point NC, you hold yourself up to be a professional in this industry so quit your hedging, you know that I know what the hell is going on here.

I am the one telling you that all of the folks that do not have XP will have to pay extortion and blackmail to get a stinking IE patch of a patch browser.

Don't tell me I am missing anything, you and GFC seem to be the one's that are lost and you guys are in the business.

Cut the BS and get down to business then

Windows XP performs fine, and the SP2 UPDATE is free.

So if you owned MS, if I understand you correctly, you would give everyone who ever purchased any version of your OS a free UPGRADE to next version, forever. Do I understand you correctly? If so, apply to that any other product/service to see how ridiculous it sounds.

I bough a new 27 inch television 5 years ago. Since then the same manufacturer has come out with about 10 new models that offer more features and a better picture. I better call them and tell them to ship me all my new televisions. After all, I bought a television from them 5 years ago.

Well, it is official, you do not know of which you speak. I am no longer going to carry this conversation on with you as you run around in circles, throwing the same url's at us and never once answering the questions I ask without using another question. I am sure you will respond with something that adds nothing to the conversation and another attack on the OS that you are using and NOT moving away from.

Sorry AC, I am not playing this game anymore. I like you, but you are just to narrow minded to have this conversation with. You have made up your mind before allowing for a conversation to take place. Nothing wrong with that, but don't expect people to play along....

I think the same about you NC, you really do not understand the issues here, you think you do.

GFC, read this article, maybe just maybe you and NC will be able to figure it out if you read the same articles a few times.

    http://news.com.com/Microsoft+to+secure+IE+for+XP+only/2100-1032_3-5378366.html

NC, you come to the same conclusion everytime when you can not give an answer

You are talking about an industry and a business I have been in for more than half my life. I have a pretty good idea what is going on.

Use a different browser, run "unpatched", or UPGRADE to XP.

    You have options.

Maybe you are right NC, you need to stand back and let others come in here, if you are going to hedge for unknown reasons, just sit back and look at what others say for a while.

Then come back when you are not afraid to make a statement.

You know more than you are posting

I think the point here is that the BROWSER Internet Explorer won't be secured except for in XP. Clearly this is intended to get people to upgrade their OS. I'm sure everybody can admit to this being the motivation behind this move.

Read the above, M$ is forcing updates because of slow adoption of XP, this is blackmail.

If you would read the articles instead of questioning me you might in fact learn something.

Remember the link I posted that you said no one needed?

Go back and read the articles linked from there.

OK - I went to the pub for a while... I am pissed (UK version of the word, not US) and may not make a lot of sense... But to summarise this <edit>(took a while to type)12 page and 116</edit> post thread...

    Anthony:
1)Is pissed off that people will have to upgrade to a newer version of Windows in order to have a secure browser... Let's just look at the facts...

a)Over the last X number of years that Windows has been around, there have been a HUGE number of viruses written in order to bring it down.
b)Out of all of those Viruses, how many patches have Microsoft (I thought I'd use their name for a change) released in order to try and combat them?
c)The viruses we are currently talking about, are targetted SPECIFICALLY at un-patched machines, including those machines running an older version of the OS.
d)Older versions of windows, have been built on upon completly different file architectures.
e)It is these old file architectures that are being targetted by virus coders
f)iIn order to stiop the hackers ttaking advantage of these architectures, people need to upgrade to the new ones - XP

Basically, I have no doubt that a number of the points I have just made may well be incorrect in some way or another, I would like to rely on NC to correct my mistakes in this instance, as THIS IS WHAT HE SPECIALISES IN!

Anthony, quite frankly, in this thread you are showing many of the characheristics that a forum Troll might show. You have been labeled with this a number of times, and I believe it is the wrong asumption to make.

I like you very much Anthony, I enjoy discussing many issues with you, but with this one, you are remaining blinkered.

You are not listening to what people have been saying, and instead of anwsering questiond, you have responded with another question.

I can't be f*cked to carry this on, as I am sure that you will respond with 1000 links to various articles and argue your point till the end.

Now if that post isn't worthy of positive feedback, I don't know what is :D

I'm not debating with articles, the debate is with you.

You're still giving out free UPGRADES for the Windows product for anyone who ever bought any version of Windows right? I just want to make sure that I understand your proposed solution correctly.

(I have read the articles you've posted by the way. Articles are just well written opinions)

YOU MUST BE DRUNK TO CHALLENGE THE GREAT ANTHONY IN THIS FASHION, STRIKE HIM DOWN SOLDIERS

I will be back with quotes that I will cut and paste in my next few posts since you can not understand the principals of business and ethics.

The first one being, if you put out a defective product you are liable to be sued for damages caused to users of that product.

You can not ask a customer to pay you twice for a product that is defective and faulty.

Microsoft is forcing folks to upgrade because they are in between OS product cycles, no OS to sell right now, folks are sticking with 2000 and NOT upgrading to XP, so M$ is forcing these 49% of windows users who are not XP users to PAY MONEY.

    100 dollars x 200 Million is what?
