Spam via twitter! SubJot to blame?

Discussion in 'Social Networks' started by sarahk, Aug 6, 2011.

I just got my invitation to join subjot (yawn) and approved access to both twitter and facebook.

This afternoon I have spam posted on twitter, reposted on facebook using the native twitter functionality. The tweet was then deleted.

I don't approve new apps very often and don't like stoopid pages so it seems most likely that Subjot is the villain. Anyone else had this since joining subjot?

Thanks for raising this concern sarahk. I am Chris Carella, the cofounder of Subjot. I can 100% assure you that the spam was not a result of you joining Subjot. We would never post to your accounts without your explicit permission (we require you to click the Twitter and Facebook icons each time you want to post to them, so you won't even accidentally autopost).

You have received one of our very first beta invites. We want to grow the site into the next Facebook and are counting on our users to be our biggest evangelists, so spamming or other bad internet behavior would be counterproductive to our goals.

I'm not really sure how to prove to you it wasn't us, but here is one idea. You could search twitter to see who else sent out similar messages. I would bet they aren't other Subjot users.

Finally, I would stake my reputation on the fact that it was not Subjot. I have a strong reputation as a startup entrepreneur on the Internet and in NYC. You can read more about me in the following posts:

Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help you or assure you it wasn't for Subjot.

For everyone else... now that you've heard of Subjot and checked me out, if you wanted to join sarahk as one of the first people using Subjot, here is an invite code - http://sjot.it/qPMk5d

Thanks, that was really helpful for us to double verify it wasn't us.

Seems like a pretty common scam. If you search Twitter for "I made $420 so far today" you'll see a lot of those.

I can't even express how much I dislike spam like this.

(sorry I can't provide a straight link to the Twitter search results, I'm not yet allowed to post links in this forum =)

Great to see a reply from the source here, I have had the same problem with spam also.

The response earlier is such a positive way to interact, nice work!
