I think its a terrific idea. If you teamed up with the right website it could be a major success. Since you have access to the code, what stops you from creating more then one community. You could open different ones based on different niches. Please read my PM.

Arcade sites have been saturated for years -- but you can still set one up and make it pay ;)

(not enough to live off, but still...)

Do it matey! what have you got to lose, even if it makes you bubkiss, you have an extra site to exchange links with.

    Cheers.

Yea, everything will be made eventually, its just how you "put it out there"

Find a unique approach, you'll be big.

its hard to really get something like a facebook/myspace since myspace is owned by a publically traded company. so just start small and see what happens.

    cool idea!
There are a few scripts that could help if you don't want to start out from scratch...

PHPfox - probabally the best one out there.
Handshakes - another good one, but time consuming.
PHPizabi - a free one, but not a good one unless you can figure it out.

Are you talking about starting a site like Myspace? as in social networking site or do you want to start a myspace resource site where you give members layouts, generators, etc.

A year ago it was still good...now there are tons of them. I have couple scripts if you like...check out ScriptSplash.com

How are you going to monetize it? If adsense, get ready to have people leave your site for 5 cents. MySpace adsense ads are some of the lowest in existence. Google announced recently that it's illegal to have an adwords ad with the words MySpace in it. This has not had any major impact yet, but down the road, it probably will. Not too far down the road, you will see all these myspace resources sites fade as MySpace is about to roll out their own layout generators, other resources etc. Their hope is to eventually kill all these sites.

That said, ride the wave as long as you can. Also, you do need to offer something unique about your glittters, layouts whatever. Just having a big collection of things is not enough if you really want this site to explode.
