I think OSCommerce is the best option if you are looking for a total solution. It is easy to install and there are a lot of people who customize it for a living so you cna usually get a fairly unique site for very little money.

As far as the rest of the aspects of starting a business, you can take a look at my Business Tutorial for some more tips such as setting up the company legally (There is a UK section)

    Good Luck!

OSCommerce is very good for making a shopping site. Although I think you will need a website designer to customize it for you as you don't have sound knowledge of PHP and databases it uses.
(Not very difficult if you want to learn it yourself.)

I agree with the Oscommerce suggestions. You may want to look at a better packeged Oscommerce spin-off like creloaded or xcart. But Oscommerce is probably the right direction.

Oscommerce is definitely a good choice of ecommerce package to go with. If you need any customisations done for your oscommerce site then let me know and I'll whip up a quote for you.

A lot of people like to be able to display more than 1 picture as pictures give a much needed boost to selling products.

What is your comfort level with the technical side of web design? If you know html and PHP/MySQL, then you can start of with free CMS packages such as Joomla or Xoops and alter the code to fit your needs. It's pretty hard to avoid having a generic site without some coding, but learning PHP is pretty simple even if you've never programmed.
