States & Cities DB

Hi everyone,

I'm not sure if this belongs here, but I didn't see a better place for it...

I'm looking for a database that holds all (most?) of the towns, cities, and states within the U.S. Ideally it would have the following information:

Town, State, Zip

Does anyone know of one available either commercially or for free?

If not, how would I go about compiling this? Could I get this from the usps webiste somehow?

 

Are you looking to setup a directory with it ? Yes, I have the DB. Costs $30
I also have a version of the same db which is plug and play for the www.cplinks.com directory and another one for the biz directory script. It's such that, you import the sql in your database, and you have an instant director with all states as categories and all cities as sub categories. Each one of these costs $45, and that includes installation of the directory script on your server as well. PM me if that is what you are looking for.

I'm not sure if what you have is what I'm looking for because I don't plan on integrating it with a directory.

I'm now looking at buying the database at http://www.zip-codes.com

Does anyone have any experience with them? What I'm looking for is pretty straightforward, so I can't imagine there is a scam, but good scams are hard to detect!

Also, they will give me the info as either a CSV, MS Excel, or MS Access. Is there an easy way to get the info into my MySQL database (not local, using phpMyAdmin)? I know I could write a script that would do it, but I'm not sure if my host would allow me to run it. They seem flexible, but I've never had to do anything like this...any experience?
