Stop Telling Me to Test!

I'm fed up with people that suggest testing. I get it already and I think everyone else does too. Stop telling us to do it with your posts.

When people post on this forum, they want insight into whether their ad unit should go on the top or the bottom, the left or the right. They want you to say well I've found that my site with this demographic has had success with a left ad unit.

We are already going to test no matter what.

If I ask does this look good with this header, I don't want "Just Test it!" as the answer. I want an opinion on what you think. I don't want you to try to motivate me, I want you to inform me. Give me information.

I'm tired of people promoting the blind testing revolution for adsense. Why can't we make insightful suggestions to each other so that we have valuable information to use to form our test?

Is anyone else fed up with being told to test?

    say *WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOSA* :)

well maybe you should TEST, jk

every site is unique.. i have 20 some sites and even though some might look alike different ad placements and different ad formats work different for each site.

Also if somebody has a super method for making money, why would they just baldly give it away to the competitor?

There is plenty other stuff on this forum besides suggestions to test.

    Best of luck :)

You should test it on the left and test it on the right and then test it with various demographics. Just give it a test! Every website is different.

If you get annoyed about replies after just 8 posts... I hope you have a thick skin. Just ignore what you don't like and use the rest. No need to get all wound up about it.

Every website is quite unique. There are no general consensus whether an ad should be clickable or not. It's a private business of every webmaster.

Just make your ads visible. That's enough to make them clickable.

As you can everyone pretty much as said same thing, every site is unique and there is no definitive way of telling you that this would be perfect for your site.

On the other hand, if you are annoyed with those one line posts (made to increase post counts), your frustration is understandable.

Testing the test tester. Test the testing tests. :D Dude, chillout.

As people before me said, there is no standard solution to ad placement on a site, id depends on colours, text layout, design, age of visitors and so on and so forth.

Testing, testing, 1, 2, 3, is this on? Is this thing on?

    Ahem.

Hey, dude, people tell you to test because that's the best advice there is. If that's too much of a concept for you, I suggest you go find something easier to do with your time, like chasing cats or somethin'.

Run your test first, then post a request for more help with that information included. If you don't do that, don't flip out if someone tells you to test.

Or, scroll past those messages because yelling at people who only mean to help isn't going to convince others to help you out.

Well lets be honest here, I've obviously lurked around beyond my 8 posts. This rant represents what I have found on all web development forums as well as from web designers in real life.

I agree every site is different, but when you do give a proper description for a problem and possible solutions that you thick might work, you aren't looking for someone to say "Test it!" because that is going to happen eventually. It has to.

Re-reading my original post its a lot more emotionally charged than I had intended, but blind testing to me just seems like trying to play the lottery which I've found in my years to be something of a low chance of success. Furthermore, I never asked for spoon fed advice, I just think people shouldn't be afraid to give their opinions and stand by them. Its not like I'm going to send you a bill for being wrong.

With my sites (and I assume everyone elses) adsense is constantly being used, therefore being tested. If I post for more info that's because I am already testing.

So I failed in my attempt to say what I needed to say, but I'll try to sum it up more intelligent in this reply.

Don't tell us to test because we are already doing so.

Can any one of you say you aren't testing? My frustration is towards pursueing the intellectual and getting simply the fundamental.

P.S. I love that the generalizations about low post count hold true across every forum.
P.S.S Thanks for a lot of laughs too guys you all have quite a sense of humour.

My stock advice in these situations: Place your ad units beneath your footer, preceeded by about 20 <br />'s. Left justified.

Preceeded by one paragraph in Esperanto.

Make a few more posts before you complain of the quality of responses here.

    Edit:

It's not blind testing. Look at the Google heat map- there are a few defined hot spots that tend to work. You don't need to re-invent the wheel. Just test those few spots. It doesn't have to be open ended.

Man you worry me dude seriously.

The way you write shows you have some degree of intelligence, yet you have the mentality of a 10 yr old.

Grow up you little fuck, spend some time reading through various threads on DP, heck you may even learn adsense optimisation!

PS. Be warned though, some advise may involve testing!!!

    LMAO

I'm not opposed to testing, just to meaningless posts. (Which some or many of you may have considered this thread under that category) This isn't suppose to be an attack on testing.

I also think that its fair to say when any of us are ranting we have the mentality of a 10 year old.

    How many?

Honestly, my post was never an attack on the quality of this forum just on the uselessness of many of the members posts jumping on the generic message, "Just Test it!"

I would say "test it" is a good advice. I am sure not everybody does that before posting here. OR they test it two days and then decide it's not working.

I don't really see how I'm opposing myself. I never said I was against testing ever. I was against people constantly saying it and thinking they've contributed to the thread.
