I am a total newbie to StumbleUpon and am trying to use it to find interesting articles, make friends in my niche and, of course, build traffic to my site. Here's what I don't get:

    1. I'm hitting the stumble button and will hit the thumbs up and/or down depending on if I like it or not. Is this good or bad etiquette? Can you over-thumb? In other words, if I look at a hundred stumble sites and give 80 thumbs up and 20 thumbs down, is that considered bad manners, i.e. should I only thumb a certain percentage?
    2. How do I submit a site to stumble?
    3. Can I submit one of my own web pages to stumble down the road, once I learn how to use this thing? Is that considered good or bad by the community?

Sorry, but I really don't get this thing yet!

No need to change your behaviour coz thumb up or down is really depend on your perspective to the website.

    2. How do I submit a site to stumble?
Just open the website you want to submit to stumble, then click thumb up to the site.

    3. Can I submit one of my own web pages to stumble down the road, once I learn how to use this thing? Is that considered good or bad by the community?
Yes it can be done.Good for community coz can see your site.

Okay, thx. But I don't understand how that would bring traffic to my site. I guess that if enough people give a thumbs up one of my pages, then it "moves up the stumble ladder" and gets more and more page views? Is that the idea?

If so, then why wouldn't I just submit a new page on my site very day or two? What do I have to lose?

And I'm asking becuase I don't really understand how I can help or hurt myself.

If you continually stumble the same site from the same account then your vote won't count as much each time.

If you want your votes to have more weight then you need to be the first to "discover" a page that the community likes.

Take a look at this page, it's a little old, but it's a pretty good overview of how to make your account stronger:
