    Currently we are developing a website providing business services to customers. I was wondering if anyone had any advice or suggestions regarding support software?

    We are looking for a single script that does both support tickets and live chat combined, not two separate scripts.

    Any suggestions?

    You can try a customer support solution with both those features already built in. I can recommend a system I’ve been using for a year – www.focalscope.com. It has both supportticket handling + live chat.

    I use liveagent and it has been very great. It offers both tickets, live chat, offline message sending and has many other features. The administration section also allows you to see all customers browsing the site, what page they are on, there ip location and it shows up as their name if they have put in a ticket in the past so that you can easily pull up their history before they even ask a question! The admin section also allows for the creation of different departments for customers to choose from when submitting a request or asking for live help.

    if your doing live chat, make an option to disable the chatbox.
    I have been on some websites that have the chatbox, and there are so many connections that the sites speed decreases to a crawl.
    Something cool would be to have it off when you first go to it, then have the user turn it on, then after say 5 min inactivity, it turns off again.

    I haven't seen any adverse performance issues using the full functionality. I am using Magento and have had it installed for about 50% of the sites life span and I didn't notice anything before or after. youtalkmedia, how big of a performance increase have you observed on your sites? Are you using wordpress, magento, joomla?
