Swearing or not.

Thanks for the opportunity to share my point of view on this Compar.

First of all I would like to ask you where in the Bible the p word is used as I never knew this before.

I would like to point you to a few verses in scripture where I believe that swearing is referred to;

This to me does not just suggest using Gods name in vain but it portrays a vast range of speech which to me includes swearing or the use of crude slang. According to Revelation I believe we are at the stage of Laodicea which is why so many Christians abuse this.

Carrying on from Matthew 15:11 we also have

The verses I have given so far although don't directly confront the issue of swearing, in my opionion would include them with the words that we use.

Does filthy language mean swearing. Personally, I think it would as the Bible is very clear when it comes to describing taking the Lord's name in vain.

This is probably the clearest verse when it comes to confronting the issue of swearing as the act of swearing or cursing is clearly identified in the passage and cannot be mistaken for any other meaning.

There are several other verses which could be used to command Christians not to swear but I dont want to write any more and babble on for pages and pages as I feel I have given a clear point of view.

I hope this has enlightened you a little as to why Christians may be offended at swearing and I would be happy to answer any other questions you may have Compar.

I don't want to come across as some kind of Saint as I am far from it. I would love to be able to say that the language I use refrains from using anger or slang but every so often my sinful nature takes over.

It's good stuff...my parents used to by it for movie watching. Except I've only seen it come in a little bucket...not a box.

Swearing? Depends where, to whom and in what context. Swear words can be used to describe a situation or a mood and at times are funny. When they are directed at a person as in name calling, that bothers me. Whether I'm the one it's directed at or not.

I swear, I think everyone does at one point or another. I've got to be pretty "freakin" ticked off first though. ;-)

Nope, that wasn't me.

And for some reason I don't think this was compar either. We have disagreed in areas and he never red repped me. To some degree I don't disagree with his post, but I feel he is bitter towards Christians - from other posts prior - one directed at me that didn't seem to fit but was calling me a bigot??

The red repper cost me only 1 point, so it is probably someone who has little rep themselves. LOL

 

Thank you for your comments DB. I'm still not sure how that post will go down but I think it's important that people have the correct facts especially when it's something which I feel strongly about.

I didn't mean any disrespect to Compar but I feel his post about Christians was a little misguided.

There have been a few occasions where some people have been as Compar would say gratuitous with their swearing and I've just thought that it won't be doing the forum any favours.
