Taking electrical appliances from Australia to USA

    Hey everyone,

I live in Australia and I'm going on a holiday to the States in June 2006.

I'm wondering what the deal is with appliances?

For example, I'm taking a laptop and mobile phone charger and my girlfriend is probably taking a hair dryer.

Besides the power adapter (one that converts the different plug type), is there some sort of transformer I can buy to step up the voltage of the US 110V to 240V so the appliance actually has enough voltage to be powered?

Or do you just have to make sure you take dual voltage appliances (like laptop chargers that accept 100-240V??

    Thanks all :)
