The better CMS in my opinion

I've seen a lot of posts about what is the best CMS. This really all depends on what you need the CMS to do. I've used Joomla, Mambo, DotNetNuke, PHP-Nuke, Wordpress and XOOPS. In my opinion Drupal beats them all in functionality and user management. Drupal does lack in one area and that is theming. Theming in Drupal can be awkward and finding a theme that's already made is limited. For those looking for and easy to use CMS that has tons of pre-made themes I suggest Joomla. Wordpress is also another good CMS with lots of pre-made themes. I would recommend Wordpress for those wanting to do a standard blog type website without all the community portal stuff. Drupal when compared to the other CMS has a little bit of a learning curve but it's well worth the time.

I was comparing the amount of themes available to drupal vs joomla.
If you go to www.joomla24.com they have a crazy amount of themes available for joomla and I don't know of any sites for drupal that has the same quantity or quality. If you do, please share. The reason drupal doesn't have as many themes is because of the difficulty involved in developing one. Drupal version 5 was easier to develop themes for but now version 6 came out which made the old themes obsolete. Also version 6 added a new step to creating a theme which requires using xml. Drupal is a awesome CMS but they sure don't make it easy.

 

Load time is fast if you're having problems it's most likely your hosting. Drupal has a admin area to adjust how resources are used and handled.

I think if Warner Brothers and Popular Science uses drupal for their site, that has to say a lot about drupal's capabilities.

 

I have used every single CMS and notthing compares to Joomla. if you spend the time working with joomla, you will relize that limits do not apply.

Wordpress, is great for a small site or blog. themes suck

Drupal is cool has alot of features, but It does not satisfy the needs i have when building larger sites.
BTW Drupal has a online Backend demo that you can play with it is great for people not sure what cms they want to use.

Mambo - I woudl rather put a knife in my eye then use Mambo

PHP-Nuke- is that crap still around? its good for teenagers and people who do not care how thier website looks or functions.

how about Pligg its is easy for a layman to install and quite easy

 

phpcow is good but very costly.

I think it really has to do with what you want to achieve. For my smaller clients who don't need to do anything major I heartily recommend Wordpress. Especially now that 2.6 is out it's a great, easy to use system that they can pick up in no time at all.

if you want to start doing some more fancy stuff with your website then I recommend Joomla all the way. I see Wordpress designers who stretch wordpress to its limits with these great new "news themes" and the like, but ofter to get them to function properly there's a lot of messing around in the php code and using strange functions, most of which are too difficult for the newbie.

They are both awesome platforms and I really don't think you can say one is better per se.

It's easy to create a new layout for Drupal. It's just as easy as creating a wordpress theme.

 

i'd still go for joomla.. i have a couple of websites running with joomla and i have to say.. it is pretty good

 

Why not write reviews about each of them? Detailed reviews so other users can benefit? (and you get paid)
