The "cool" factor - Google

Now, we all know that Google is the best SE (the sane ones of us, that is). We are constantly mentioning that they have better serps etc... but guess what?

Google is better because of the cool factor. It is simply a classier website than most. Can you think of any other sites where you wouln't be annoyed to see an error page?

    Nice ?

I dont see Google as cool at all. It does cool things, but their 'personal approach' and 'sense of humour' makes them feel a bit more grounded (for a Billion dollar business)

True. But it still pisses me off when I need to get an email and I can't because the system is down.

***I know, minstrel! I should "pop it"! :p

I don't think it's very cool when I can't get into my gmail either. They might as well show a guy bending over and text that says, "I hope this doesnt hurt too bad".

That is it. I figure that is the source of the Google name with two mathematicians founding it.

The official word, from a 1998 version of the Google website:

"10^100 (a gigantic number) is a googol, but we liked the spelling "Google" better. We picked the name "Google" because our goal is to make huge quantities of information available to everyone. And it sounds cool and has only six letters. "

So they were going for cool from the very start ;)

I don't know why people use free email like Gmail (or Yahoo) and then complain when it's down. I mean, duh, it's free. You get what you paid for -- or in this case, didn't pay for.

    Yahoo
    Yet Another Hierarchical Officious Oracle

rude, unsophisticated, uncouth. - thats cool.

You cant go for cool - that just makes you not cool, you either are or you arent ;)

    From yahoo:
The Web site started out as "Jerry and David's Guide to the World Wide Web" but eventually received a new moniker with the help of a dictionary. The name Yahoo! is an acronym for "Yet Another Hierarchical Officious Oracle," but Filo and Yang insist they selected the name because they liked the general definition of a yahoo: "rude, unsophisticated, uncouth." Yahoo! itself first resided on Yang's student workstation, "Akebono," while the software was lodged on Filo's computer, "Konishiki" - both named after legendary sumo wrestlers.

All of which matters not.. Google produces better results at the moment..

Yahoo must consider widgets THE most important thing, and google is doing the same.. with its apps. Bye Bye browsers..

    Yeah, I understand that...and I don't complain.

Nevertheless, it's still frustrating and I don't appreciate having it rubbed in my face with that, "cross your fingers, click your heels and hope that it works soon!" malarkey!
