The digg effect

Lets say you click on this digg story and your not a Digg member - you dont login - does it still count as a official digg?

I saw on digg.com the top stories have 300+ diggs to get to the front.. I have communtiy of 1000+ ppl if I get them all to Digg story surely I will get onto the front of Digg .. ?

crash the server etc etc

so whats the deal with Digg - login in or not when browsing through?

 

You have to be logged in.

 

It is not that easy to do well on Digg. If you post an article, it should not be from your own site. That is considered spam. Normally it takes about 20 or so Digg's to get your story on the front page with comments. Be very careful not to spam.

 

If you can get them all to vote within a couple hour window, then you would have a good chance of getting onto the front page. It can't be a slow and steady stream of clicks - it has to be a surge of clicks.

Well, that is an easy one - if it is a worthy article, have someone else submit it. Of course SPAM, by the very nature of Digg, will almost never (unless there is a concerted effort by the spammer and additional help) make it to the front page.

 

Yes they are very strict about spams but sometimes its unbelievable to see what sort of stories makes it to the front page. I feel as if the front page always has similar contents in it. Then the real news moves on to the other pages sooner.

Going back to your point, it does not hurt to post your story on digg. I don't think posting your own press release shoud be considered spam. Even if it doesn't make it to the front page, you will see some diggers make it to your page. If they like it then they will digg it.

 

Don't know why but Digg users always end up flaming people for submitting their own sites. They use words like "spamming" or "blatant self-promotion" and it generates a lot of negative publicity. I'd never recomment it.

 

No publicity is bad publicity hehe..

Just get someone else to submit it and then you digg it!!

No matter what you do I have found that the Digg users must like your article to get it to the front - hence the Digg concept works beautifully

 

Thats true. But read the comments to some entries. They're absolutely horrifying.
They'll call the author a f****** idiot, a piece of sh*t, dirt bag, and god knows what if they don't agree with the authors opinion. I mean, cmon guys, grow up!
There are many ways of showing disagreement, but this is outrageous!

Digg user do not click ads.
Digg user do not use alexa.
Digg traffic does not generate new user,comment or post.
Every Page on the front page gets flamed in the comments.

It's still very good traffic.

 

But if all these 1000+ people have just recently signed up on digg and voted for your story, chances are digg may see this as spam and your account maybe closed.

 

I get pretty good traffic from digg

 

I suppose the trick with sites such as digg is to look at the problem from a different standpoint and not head on.

 

yep, Digg will effect in your traffic as well as in your ranking for keywords in search engines due to it's quality back link.
