When you upload your file.And this is download many times then you earn money.

I think from advertisement it's most secret.

 

Mostly they make money from advertisement and sometimes it's for self promotion also.

 

I'll tell you little secrets. Here are what other think how successful free host get the money:

1. From Advertisement. They get money from Ads placed in their clients sites.
2. From Paid Upgrade. Less than 21% (probably more) of their user will upgrade into paid hosting.
3. From selling links. They place links in footer. It can be their links or their investor.
4. From the reputation. They gain reputation along with so many members using the service. In this modern world, reputation mean gold.
5. This is not confirmed but sometimes they get money if users 'abuse' or using excessive resources. In order to get access, they need to pay some fee.
6. Another unconfirmed rumor is they could get 'stuffs' from their clients and sold it somewhere. I personally don't believe this as each free host has their own pride.
7. Last, they get money by promoting other people's business. They help user migrating to other paid host. They set it up and users are ready to use new host. basically it is an affiliate business.

 

paid upgrades are the main thing, but also hosting companies payout affiliates of $50 or more per signup. So a host that is free, but promoting around, might attract natural traffic. From that, and from a large userbase, you might attact 1 affiliate sale per week / month and thats money in your pocket.

 

One way is putting advertisements on the free hosting customers' sites and the other way is forcing the customers to upgrade the free hosting plan to a paid hosting plan.

Youhosting reseller program might be something you could look at. pm me if you want to discuss some pros and cons of using them.
Be warned, getting signups (even for free hosting) takes alot of work and effort. Simply having the site isn't enough, you need to be proactive and drive relevant traffic to your site. Profits wont be instant, but can be there for you once you are established, so just be sure that you are in this for the long haul.

 

you Hosting is good start. I remember working with them few years ago. I know their limitation and how to solve it. Their custom panel and Installer has limitation. Updating CMS require manual action and so on. Not hard job if we understand about how hosting works.
I use it to help my student setup their own sites. Then I use shared hosting for my sites and paid reseller hosting for my student's sites (different host). After getting managed server, I move all the sites to new place. My little adventure while using hosting. From free blog (blogspot) to free hosting and then end up in server. It is not all happy story. Have some terrible events too. You hosting is good place to learn about hosting. I thank them for it. If we could handle the business, there is no doubt we could handle any reseller hosting. This is just my opinion.
