This site had about 6 google ads on one page

How do they do that?

I thought that if you had more than 3 ad placements, no other ads would even show up?

Is there some kind of adjustment if you are a big player?

Indeed, you can only place 3 of each (link units and text ads). I think what they did they used iframes.

I am not aware of the TOS for the "big guys". Maybe they can post more ads than us, normal people.

 

He has 8 eight unit ads on this page omg ) , he will soon be banned.

Sometimes more ads can be displayed but it is not advisable for any website to do so. Websites can get penalised easily by Google and other search engines. It is very important for web designers and website owners to follow the rules at all costs.

that is specifically outlined as a no go in the guidelines...sometimes sites just slip through the cracks...its a vast web out there.

 

i've seen sites like these littered with adsense...they get taken down eventually

They are able to place as many ad blocks as they like, and they are able to alter the ad by utilizing CSS to make it appear exactly like their site content. They can change the font, font size, colors, make the links change color on hover, add padding or margin to links and text, make the "ads by google" text tiny, etc. This likely increases click through rates by several percentage point if done properly (probably doubling income).

 

Google allows Adsense Publishers to have 3 Link and 3 Text/Image ads on their site at once.

If you read the rest of the posts, I believe that you're allowed more than 3 as long as you're a premium user.
