UK Affiliates, What do You do About Bank Charges for Exchanging USD Cheques?

    I live in London. Every time I deposit a USD cheque into my UK bank account, the bank charges me for the exchange. And every time I make a payment to a US company, the bank charges me for the exchange. I am sick of all these charges.

    Is there a way around these charges, keeping in mind that wire transfers are out of the question? For example, have any of you opened a USD bank account?

    I'm sure you can get a USD account from a UK bank.

    They still manage to screw a cut out of your somehow.
