(Under)charging for advertising

I've been selling links on my sites for quite a while, although it was only since November last year that I could really earn some significant money from it.

And while what I charge ususally seems to work quite well. People seem to accept the price as good, I am not entirely sure my pricing is most optimal (in terms of balance between what people are willing to pay for and what I wish to earn, cause, isn't it all about that?).

So just to help put things into perspective, what do you believe to be a standard price range for a PR6 content site. I know it depends on some other things. It does, from the amount of content, the age and subject of the site, quality etc. etc. Let's say, what would be a standard price range for decent quality content sites with lots of pages (of which many are forum topics for example).

Also about discounts. I feel I am quite generous with my discounts for 3/6/12 months payment. So generous in fact that the 12 months term ends up almost halving the price. :D Is that what you guys do too?

I guess what I'm afraid of is that I'm losing on earnings (and hence business growth) potential by being too generous. I don't want this to sound bad (I mean I know some of you guys are like potential or existing customers, who knows), but that's what we're here for (among other things), to make some decent (or a lot ;) ) money doing something really cool. :)

Anyway, thanks for any help you can provide.

Hello, I think it is important to mention what niche your content site is in in order to give a good answer.

if you think its too cheap put the price up by a few $s, if people still say its cheap put it up by aother $1 or 2 after 6 months then see what people are saying

They're not actually saying anything usually. :) For all I know some might be considering it a high price.

I actually did up the monthly price for one site recently by $5 and I manage to sell well. The way I justified this increase is simply that site is maturing, having a bit more traffic and I thought it's worth it.

I have two sites, but they both attract techie types. One is more general than the other though, and attracts thinkers, technologists, freedom lovers and even activists. It's about freedom and technology and how they relate today.
