Upgrading to a new shopping cart - need suggestions.

I have been using eCommerce Templates PHP shopping cart for over two years now. And while I love the flexibility and the 3rd party support, that is also the limiting factor that is causing me to search out a new solution. The eCommerce Templates (known as ECT from this point forward) are a bit awkward in the way it functions for my consumers. So I would like to see if I can get a new cart that will address these issues while still providing me with the flexibility to change things on my own (something that they do very well.)

What does my current software do poorly?

    • Shipping options: Currently I offer my customers several options from both UPS and USPS. ECT requires that customers load a new page to compare shipping rates. I need all shipping costs to appear on a single page. I was losing orders because people did not understand how that function worked. It is truly one of the most limiting factors of ECT. I have a dev. that is working with me to mod the software, but his abilities are limited.

    • USPS Integration: I would like the cart to function well with stamps.com. It would be wonderful if I could export everything on the fly, but batch exports are fine too. I just want it to be structured in a way that each order exported can be accounted for properly without having to compare notes (this is why an interactive solution would be best.)

    • Novice Friendly: As mentioned above, I want something that I can work on. I don't want something super expensive that requires a programmer to modify. PHP is my language of choice.

    • Pay for Play: I need a developer that is not afraid to do custom work should it be necessary. This is the second most aggravating part of ECT, the fact that I can't pay for help. If I have a major site concern, i want to be able to pay someone for a concrete solution. Instead I am forced to reply on less than adequate 3rd party mod programmers.

I know everyone will be tempted to post and recommend their favorite cart, but I really would love some feedback on my small list of criteria. I posted this at another unmentioned site and got a spam reply from someone trying to push their own software. So please, if you're a self-promoter, don't bother.

I am not afraid to spend money...but at the same time, I don't want to waste money either. I'm figuring on spending $500 on this new cart in raw format, with another $500-$1000 in setup and custom programming fess if necessary.

If you can help guide me, or know someone who can, please let me know.

    Thanks!
