The 'industry standard' rate for this type of work is $40-$60 per hour. http://www.the-efa.org/res/rates.php

Is that what you're offering to pay?

Which is why they're always going to be struggling and broke as well.

I'm not sure what they're paying but judging by the people who want writers for .50c/1.00 on here, I usually don't get my hopes up. The only thing that makes this place better than WF is the people are far more intelligent... then again that's really not a high bar to achieve, those people are god awful.

The fact of the matter is that Marcialmario22 was prepared to pay what he thought was the "industry standard" for proofreading ($1 per page). The truth is that the proofreading standard is an AVERAGE of $12 per page, (http://www.writersmarket.com/assets/pdf/How_Much_Should_I_Charge.pdf).

I'm not surprised that webmasters stop using this forum when 3rd rate Indian ESL students flood the content creation section. The webmasters get used to seeing $1/100 words like it's the "standard" or something and then they do asinine things like ask for Proofreading at 1200% mark-down.

$1/100 words is most certainly not a standard for writers. It is a standard rate to expect from someone who doesn't have a mastery of English but can bang on keys pretty well for hours at a time.

I hope that Marcialmario22 will, in the future, learn what the industry standard is for a given contracted job, then negotiate with esteemed peers through friendly forums like this one. However, he'll probably continue utilizing the cheapest services he can find and he'll continue to expect people to work for $1 per page whether proofreading, writing or otherwise.

I for one want it documented in this thread that $1 per page ($1/ 500 words) is the going rate for this project. The OP isn't stating that in his ad or in the thread because it's heinously low and honestly, insulting to those of us that are actually GOOD at this.

I'll leave my last offer on the table for you, OP. I will proofread your content and bring it to the industry standard for $8 per page. That's $2 cheaper than the low-ball estimates of ACTUAL proofreader earnings. So, a deal. Not to mention that it will be professional and 100% edited to academic standards.
