Using GaF freelancers after project ends

Are you obliged to go through GaF if you want the same freelancer to do another job for you?

I put up a project (article writing) on GetAFreelancer recently, the person I chose did a really good job and I emailed her directly yesterday to see if she'd be interested in doing something else for me (not article writing).

She says: "... I would love to bid on this job, but we have to go through GAF. They have a regulation against buyers and providers communicating or transacting business outside of the GAF network. If I get a violation report, it will keep me from being able to bid on future projects ..."

I thought any regulations were designed to protect projects posted on the GaF board, not to prevent buyer-seller relationships developing externally ever.

I'd like to know what you do in these situations and what experience you've had.

I don't think her worry was about protecting her payments (we could sign a contract and have 50% upfront as is common) but about violating GaF rules - if I put a 'freelancers needed' notice up on the site wouldn't she be able to apply?

GAF has no control over how a professional relationship develops outside of posted projects. They can't force customers to post all of their projects there, nor can they exercise any right over future hiring decisions of any company. I've picked up a few one-time press release contracts there at my regular rates, and it's led to some of my longest-term, and highest-paying, clients, and we very rarely put future projects through GAF, once the initial one is completed.

Hi jhmattern, that was my take on it as well.

Anyway I asked their support desk and got back this response:
"Yes, you must post new project for the provider."

I wasn't at all satisfied so I queried them again and they said:
"You can work outside of GAF but you cant make payment using GAF and post a feedbacks."

As it should be. Clearly they would prefer buyers to post subsequent projects on GAF as that's how they make their money but it's hardly convenient for the buyers.
