    alot of people use ads on them, such as adsense or YPN....

    youtube did not make real money, it depended on investors' money in order to survive. Now that Google took over the business, it can dip into google cash pool and also the recent contract with some media companies and adsense.

    Well, with deep pockets you can do almost anything.

    Of course, as for clones, they probably depend on advertising as their main source of income. Whether it is profitable or not, I got no idea.

    adbrite has in-video ads now, so thats another option.
