vBulletin Google Adsense Deep Integration Tutorial

    Sorry if this has been posted before, I don't recall seeing it around here yet. Many thanks to Moto for pointing this out - an absolutely essential AS integration tutorial that helped me triple my forum earnings overnight. I know, this sounds like a sales pitch, and I wish I had something to sell... but I don't. :p

    Original source thread at vBulletin.org.

    Enjoy!

    Obviously, you will have to customize the AS codes with your color codes matching your forum layout, also include your channel and client IDs.

    I quoted the entire tutorial here for those who don't have access to the vB forum itself and couldn't see the codes otherwise.

    Good luck! :D

    Not just Shawn... everyone running vB in the mainstream should take a very close look at this tutorial.

    However, I suggest the following changes:

    I left the navbar link unit and the navbar leaderboard unchanged, but wrapped the following conditional around the FORUMDISPLAY and postbit_legacy template sections:

    <if condition="!$bbuserinfo[userid]">
    ...
    </if>
    Code (markup):
    This causes the AS sections only to show up for unregistered viewers of your forum. I believe to keep the forum as clean as possible for logged members, I try to upsell them to commission based affiliate programs instead. And as I have lots of excess SE traffic (about 10% of the traffic are logged members), the additional AS integration really plays more of a role for "freeloader" traffic anyway.

    I saw that over at VB.org and used it. It's definately helped clickthroughs and is very easy to integrate. Totally recommend it!

    All of the above. Due to the setup of the template layouts, you won't ever display more than 3 ad units and one link unit on the same page.

    That ad integration into the forum categories is pretty slick, but I bet it will lead to smartpricing with a quickness and annoyed users.

    lol nice.

    damn you get a lot of impressions to your forum.

    what is the url? I wouldnt mind trying it but I think my members would balk at all the ads.

    Already they are pissed with my ads that I only show to guests lol.

    You must have a pretty large forum.

    Sorry, I won't disclose the URI. The forum is pretty big, 15-18k uniques, 130-150k pageviews, about 3-4.5k posts every day. It's a fashion oriented forum, lots of regulars. :cool:

    Update:

    It's still going strong, I really suggest you give it a shot. However, I do suggest you restrict the forumdisplay ads to non-members, keep the ads in for members to see on their search.

    Good luck!

    vladid, so you only have all of these showing for people that are not logged in?

    I'm currently running a 728x90 under the navbar that does very well so I'd like to keep that one normal but do more integration for non registered people.

    I run the ad blocks in the postbit template only for guests. Registered members would be mighty annoyed if their thread posts got mangled with big ad blocks. The Search Result units are enabled for members as well, as guests can't use my search.
