I'm trying to fill a selection with a color but it fades to clear in the borders. How can I fill without getting clear borders? Very basic photoshop question

Make sure you're not using any blending options by default and you're using the fill tool and not a gradient tool? Other than that, we'd have to see a screenshot.

Are you using feather? make sure your feather settings are set to zero that is if you are using the marquee tool, if not make sure that the background you are filling is of a solid colour.

Yes, I'm using the feather tool. What I'm trying to do is to make a rounded corner rectangle. I'm trying to accomplish this by selecting a rectangle with the marquee tool, applying a feather and then filling the selection. This give me nice rounded corners but when I try to fill the selection I get the results mentioned above. The color fades to clear in the borders. If I keep clicking the fill button to fill the fade area, it fills outside the selection and I end up with a regular rectangle. Here's a pic of the rectangle with the borders fading to clear. How can I fix this or is there another way to get a rounded corner rectangle?

The opacity was at 100%. I'm going to forget about using this method. I'll just paint a circle on all four corners and then paint the rest of the empty spaces and voila, there's my rounded corner rectangle. Thanks for your help anyway.

    Select - > Modify - > Smooth

    Or

Simply use the rounded rectangle tool (U)
