I'm using Spam assasin + that Thunderbird Spam Filter. Works greatly.
I may get 2-3 Spam email / day but that's it!

 

All these filters are a nice solution for now, but Shawn mentioned a new SMTP protocol, is that in the works or are we gonna be waiting awhile?

 

Hey, why do I only get a few a day? Maybe it's targetted spam...hehe.

 

3 email accounts and only one gets the occasional spam email.

Usually it's something about diet pills or penis enlargements. Are guys getting concerned now with "girth" too? Cuz I got one recently for that....LOL...

I dunno...I don't make a habit of giving out my email addys so maybe thats why I'm lacking in spam....

 

I managed to go for 2 years without getting any spam. Then once I setup my website, I started getting Cialis and 'sexy asian girls' and crap daily. Do people actually visit websites (and mine is a baby website, which is so disturbing I could puke) and pickup email addresses from the contact pages?

If I ever meet them on a sidewalk, I'll do more than just beat them up.

 

No they don't visit sites individually, they crawl them like Google does and harvest the email addresses. I wrote a blog post on hiding your email address the other day, basically it's difficult to stop them. Two suggestions are:

1) use an image of your email address (downside is people can't even copy paste)

2) use a server-side script like php to process a "contact" form then forward the email on to you

I'm considering a third solution too, but not sure if it'd be worth it or not...

 

They are easy to spot, they are the ones with huge, non-stop errect penises

Hehe, hadn't actually posted about that yet but yeah... still not totally convinced that would stop them for good, but if you changed the encryption function name on a case by case basis it'd be harder for them to detect it being used, and all the regexping would slow the script down considerably I think.

I should probably try to break it though before I blow my own trumpet. Hence I haven't really been blowing it yet

this site works pretty well, I even mix uncoded within the coded to make sure harvesters get confused.

 

What I like about gmail is the "spam report " button where you can get the spam mail deleted and reported with one click.
