Video sharing site, a risky business?

I was thinking of starting a porn video site, but as you know there are things to count in (bandwidth cost, space (well, it's rather cheap it seems) ). Are they really profitable or just a waste of time? (think small start, a VPS)

Note, it's on planning stage, my first site is going well with lots of page views/unique hits, still a long way before I do this

If you have one, how much do you make vs server expenses if you can provide that info

This is a tough but easy question, basically a grey area business is always at risk. The money is good as long as you can convert, and of course in order for this to happen you need to receive a lot of traffic. Now to calculate on how expensive things will be, well that's impossible as to many variables are in place.

Honestly, think about this before anything as you might either waste time or money and it sucks when it's both. Remember you will have a lot of competition for adult sites.

Yea, I'm going with a gallery first to see how it goes, the niche i'm in is pretty wide (specific adult niche) so I'm gonna try with a gallery first since I know quite a few ways to save space/bandwidth with images. Meanwhile I'll just start researching on how to save bandwidth/space with videos and see how it goes while my site gets more popular

anyways, more thoughts are welcome on the subject!

I'm not so sure, I heard YouTube still isn't profitable because of it's aggressive appetite for bandwidth. Also with the amount of sites available to advertise on, the rates I would of thought for adult banner impressions would of started to shrink due to the rapid availability of ad inventory in the industry? Porn is a freemium industry now and it's hard to bank off it's traffic I believe, due to the vast availability of high quality free porn.
