Virtuemart and Paypal

Discussion in 'eCommerce' started by masterB, Sep 4, 2009.

Hi, I have an ecommerce site that I started a few months ago, and I wanted to know your opinion, as I´m using Virtuemart (joomla plugin) as the platform of it... yes I know, maybe not the best choice, but now is done.

In the shop, I don´t process credit cards, I just accept paypal. Could this be the problem with which I´m getting so low sales? The traffic I´m receiven is about 100 uniques per day.

Thank you, hope you understood something :)

Why don't you try enabling the paypal website pro and enable the credit card payment also?

You should keep trying the split testing on your website and see what converts most. for example- payment method, design, pricing, introducing coupons etc.

This way you will get a winning formula.

Use credit card processing using Paypal . 100 visitors are enough to make sales if they are targeted visitors from search engines or ads. But visitors from webmaster forums and social sites are less effective in making sales .

    Hi masterB;
I had this same problem when I started HCG.
A lot of traffic but sales seemed low. So I finally got a merchant account and started processing the orders on site.
Not only did this increase my sales tremendously it also increased my PayPal sales!!

I believe it has to do with Trust. Accepting Credit Cards is a given and expected. Accepting PayPal is a bonus option and a secondary method of payment in many consumers eyes.

PayPal does have a system where you can process Credit Cards on your site.
I believe there is a monthly fee and you have to pass a credit check.

So in short, yes it is a problem only accepting PayPal and you will note a marked increase in sales by processing Credit Cards on site.

I agree with HCG, since most people who purchase products online don't have paypal accounts, your system seems to be barring them from taking advantage of the product. With support for CC you might get the sales you intend since you will have a wider scope of payment support.

I understand your points and your responses are very nice and useful.

The products I sell are replicas (In the site I say my products are replicas, I don´t lie to the customers), and I don´t really know if paypal would let me sell this kind of products with CC??!

Anyone has experience with this? ANY HELP will be very useful
