VOIP! What are your views, have you got it?

Communications in the information age are constantly evolving and the business world is starving for clear and fast communication systems.

VOIP for example is one of many unique methods of communicating with people over the internet and at a fraction of the cost of speaking by regular phone!

Article after article hails VOIP as "Here To Stay" and the great news is most of the world does not even know about it!

What are your views, have you got it?
    Who does it?
    How much and how good?

Lets find the best, for the cheapest!

    Good luck and thanks!

One thing about some of the VoIP companies that really pisses me off is that they detect by IP where you are and charge you more depending how far you are trying to call, even though it's not costing them any different. This is if you are calling from computer to telephone.

I work for a Voip provider in sweden. We have Voip and Voice controlled switch boards.

I can work from home but answer calls that comes to our office, I can even answer them on the cell phone. We even have customers where part of the staff sits in Stockholm, Sweden and others in Bosnia. These ppl in Bosnia are using Voip to call to Sweden for local (Swedish) rates. You can figure the amount of money they save each month.

People calling us or any of our customers hear a message that says something like "Welcome to Company X, please state the name of the person you want to talk to or say support to talk to our support staff". If someone says support our switch board calls all numbers associated with support (presently three Ip phones and three cell phones) and connects whoever answers first. This voice service can be configured to answer questions and take messages when noone answers. That was a little side note but I like that function so much :D

Assuming you meant to ask me.

    Voip - 30 SEK/month (about $4 USD)
Voice switch board, depends on your setup but from about 400 SEK ($54 USD/month). Compare that to a traditional switch board and you'll laugh all the way to the bank.

There have been rumours about a UK firm wanting to license this technology.

I was just looking at going with Vonage. It's about $26 a month for unlimited US calling (and super low International rates). Lots of extra features too which the regular phone company usually charges for. We're already spending $45 a month minimum for a land line...not including two different mobile phone packages.

I say to heck with the crazy phone companies that nickel and dime you to death.

I use Skype and slashed my mobile phone bill by 50% because of it. Love it! My handset has been playing up though recently (have a USB VOIP Phone) but I suspect my dodgy OS state is the root cause of it.

    Gotta love free phonecalls though!

world's most widely used telephony products. Current estimates put the number of VoIP users at about 5 million, although industry observers say that number will increase fivefold in the next two years.

VoIP--which enables phone calls to be carried over the Internet--also is one of the most economical phone technologies available. Many VoIP services are available for as little as $20 a month, though with some important constraints.

The key to making the most of VoIP is understanding its basic forms and what you might expect to pay for them. Here are the essentials.

San-Deep, am I wrong or is your post just text copied from some article? If you want to post text from articles at least give a reference to the origin.

Sometimes you do get surprised. Heres some new speed-poster that actually hones up to his mistakes.

San-DeeP, try and make each post count (and not just to pad your post count) and you'll be loved on this forum. I know I post one liners now and then, and nonsense a bit more often but I do try to contribute. There are lots of ppl that does not hesitate to bad rep stupid posts (I'm one of em) so there are reasons to behave.

By the way, welcome to DP.
